MOTA is a small apparel brand out of San Juan, Puerto Rico. We put art on cotton — tees, caps, socks and sandals for people who like cannabis culture and the films, characters and jokes that grew up alongside it.
We don’t sell cannabis. We never have. What we sell is printed cotton.
The mark
The “A” in MOTA is a triangle with a cannabis leaf inside it, and at the centre of the leaf there’s an eye.
The eye is the point. “Open your mind” isn’t a slogan we added afterwards — it’s what the mark was drawn to say. The triangle is the frame, the leaf is the subject, and the eye is what we hope happens when you look at it.
How we make things
Every piece is printed when you order it. Nothing sits in a warehouse, nothing gets discounted at the end of a season, and nothing gets thrown away because it didn’t sell.
That’s slower than holding stock, and it’s why we can’t take a shirt back because it didn’t fit. It also means we can carry designs that would never justify a production run — which is most of the interesting ones.
